I don't want to pick on my buddy, Justin, but tonight he was asking how to improve his flexibility. I gave him a few exercises and told him to practice them every, single day. On his way out there door I said, "Are you going to do those exercises?" And he said, "I'm going to try."

I told him, "That means, 'No I'm not.' Try means NO." You're either gonna do it or you're not, the second you let the word "try" into your vocabulary you've already lost the battle! You've given yourself an out, "Well, I didn't say I was going to do this, I said I was going to try."

Try means no. You either do something or you don't, you don't try.

(I'm gonna punch the first person you quotes Yoda!)

Note, just a little more clarification:

In Teenager, the language of teenagers, you are exactly right. Some adults, too many, also still speak Teenager.

Other examples:

"Are you straightening your room?"

"Yeah!!!! Jeesh!! Quit nagging me!" (Trans: No. but I picked up one thing as soon as I heard you yell, and I may or may not continue.")

Hey Joe,

Right on the mark. The Nike slogan would have been even better if they had said, "Quit Trying and Just Do It!

Very good point Joe! I like that a lot and it's completely true.

Here's something you can add to Yoda's quote "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take". I like quote also. So get out there and take a shot!

No offense Duff, but that picture makes your ears look like they stick out. Plus you look short.
You do have a nice smile, though.

In every activity of life there are the winners and the losers. When Napoleon selected his officers he always wanted to know if they were "lucky."In Bat Masterson's instructions to gun fighters he said that one of the most importnt traits was "resolve." In Dr.Al Sieberts great book,"The Survivor Personality" he mentions that the winners or survivors are "intuitive' and that in combat "The Rambo Types are the first to go". Whether you call it "the will to win" or "killer instinct" you are talking about a dimension of mind and you will find the same basic personality characteristics in every activity of life. Make decisions and act on them. Don't vacillate, don't be a coward like th Wilie Coyotes -make up your mind-take the risk and decide to live yor life on an entirely different and elevated plane. "If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much room." Instead pf saying "I'll try" - say I Will".
