Very informative & interesting email. John I thank you for your dedication & work. I have just embarked upon a daily push-up routine. This was VERY helpful & encouraging. THANKS AGAIN!

For me the question is not how many push ups but how hard.
I think is more productive to make your push ups harder,by changing your leverage or better adding DVR tension, than doing more reps.
But that's just me.I guess others get more benefit from volume.

Hey douglis,

I don't think that it needs to be a case of either/or but rather both high volume [ and I] high intensity. Seriously, I think there is a good case to be made for performing both modalities from time to time. I-N-T-E-N-S-I-T-Y for strength and rugged conditioning. High volume to infuse muscles with highly oxygenated blood and to deliver growth factors and nutrients to the muscles.
