Hey Jason,

I agree. It's amazing to see how a person can learn to powerfully contract every muscle in his body simultaneously. Naturally, the more you do it the better you become at. BUT it also has one other extreme benefit and that is that you also become far more able to perform every other Isometric Contraction with great intensity.

That stronger isometric contraction is the result of having transmitted a stronger command impulse from your mind to the target muscle. As you continue to practice and develop this ability you will not only be able to transfer this ability to other isometric contractions, but you will ultimately find that your “will power” will increase and enable you to influence desired reactions in other life activities

Hey Gordon,

What you have stated is absolutely right on target. When it comes to developing WILL POWER and FOCUS nothing holds a candle to Isometric Contraction.

Hey John,

In Kiveloff's instructions on how to do the full-body contraction, he specifically states to have the arms hang straight down to the sides (not bending the elbows) and to not clench the fists.

Is it imperative for some reason that those three things be followed just as he states? I have been doing it as what's called the "most muscular pose" (MMP) in body building posing circles where the arms are bent and fists clenched. I wonder, too, if doing it as a static Milo while contracting the entire body would provide benefits? I seem to get a much better overall upper body contraction when doing the MMP.

I agree John. I posted the pic just to illustrate the "most muscular pose."

About my original question though, do you think that it is necessary to do the full body contraction just as Kiveloff explained, with arms hanging straight down without clenching fists to get the full benefit? Or is doing it similar to a full body Milo or MMP just as effective/

Hey Paul,

Why not do it both ways and remove all doubt. By clenching fists as in the original Charles Atlas beach pose you activate every muscle in the entire arm structure. as well as every muscle in the entire body.

Nothing scientific here, just a guess. The basic goal of the Dr K exercise is to increase peripheral blood flow, the very ends and smallest part of the circularly system. Clenching your fist and bending your arms would probably restrict that flow.

The muscular pose may actually benefit from a bit of restriction?

2 different ways of doing basically the same exercise, 2 separate goals.

I was thinking of this thread today while I was doing my superman planks.




I hold these for about 12 seconds, it sure is a full body contraction!
