I was curious about what muscles behind the neck pull ups hit as opposed to standard pull ups. All of my research around the internet said that they don't do much different than standard pull ups and you put yourself in a compromising situation to potentially damage your rotator cuff. Anybody have any thoughts different than this?

hello jhullinger,

For several years I performed Pull-ups Behind The Neck where I was touching the bar with the base of my neck and the tops of my shoulders. Was it harder? You bet and it did develop the Trapezius more than standard Pull-UPsl. But depending upon how one is built it can be hard on the shoulders. So although I like the variation, I would not recommend it for most men.
